It's all over for the unknown soldier

I'll have to go in this week and change my layout to remove 'The War Diaries' bit from my layout since the lack of 24 hour news coverage would lead me to believe that everything's over for the meantime.

No celebrations, no big announcements. In fact the only way you'd know it was finished (apart from the news headlines) is because all the anti-war whingers have shut up and moved onto bleating about something else.

Funny how all the irate Diarylanders who were beating out the bash Bush entries have gone so quiet now. Heaven forbid they were just hitching a ride on the latest trendy campaign.

Surely with all those dreadfully sincere entries it couldn't possibly be they've got bored?

You know the people in Iraq are still suffering and not because of the conflict. They're still suffering because the wonderful United Nations won't lift the damned sanctions.

So why the fuck isn't everyone out at weekends stopping the traffic and puking over public buildings about that? Damn, if only protesting about sanctions had the same Hanoi Jane glamour about it.

But that's alright. Crawl back into your little boxes and ignore what's happening. I'm sure some new trend will come along in a couple of months to get you all riled up again and you can have fun running round posting crap in the guestbooks of anyone who dares to disagree with your narrow point of view.

And because everyone's so quick to forget we won't learn any lessons from what has happened, while it's only the ability to remember and to learn from the past that stops us from making the same mistakes in the future.

Sometimes I could weep at the sheer stupidity and shallowness of the human race.
