June 9, 2001 Even More Politics Well, that's election fever over with for another four years. The local council results won't come in until next week, but the Westminster results do show one trend in Northern Ireland. We don't want any so-called peace process to work. Both the DUP and Sinn Fein made gains which means both the unionist and nationalist communities have retreated to the hardcore political factions. Why am I writing this? Because I hope there are some people from outside the Province who actually read it. And it goes a long way to explain the Northern Ireland problem. Quite simply, there will never be a lasting peace in the Province because at the end of the day there's a substantial amount of people on either side of the political and religious divide who aren't prepared to give in against their beliefs. That isn't a criticism of them - just a statment of fact.
